If you're a vegetarian and enjoy eating an Organic diet
you may prefer to deal with Organic food companies that don't sell meat.
The list below includes one excellent organic company we've used which runs
a totally vegetarian policy, and delivers straight to your door.
We'll be expanding the list to include organic vegetarian restaurants and
cafes, so please let us know of any places you'd like us to review.
| The Organic Delivery Company |
Highly
commended in the national Organic Food Awards, The Organic Delivery
Company is a small and friendly service, delivering organic food and
wine in the London area, and offering excellent value The
first time I used this service I was thrilled to receive fresh organic
bread baked that morning! Since then The Organic Delivery Company has
expanded its organic range to include rice, teas, free-range eggs, pesto
(vegetarian of course!) and many more kitchen staples. It was good to
know that we didn't have to worry about animal fining agents in the
wines either. Like their food, all the wines and beers are vegetarian,
and we were also offered a vegan selection. (I was intrigued by the
"Cannabia" which comes with Home Office approval - its brewed
from hemp!) The Organic Delivery Company will deliver to your doorstep anywhere in Greater London plus surrounding areas in the SW such as Richmond, Teddington, Molesey etc. They'll even recycle the vegetable boxes for you. Look out for their small cheerful delivery vans. They've got large purple cabbages painted on the side! Check out their friendly website at www.organicdelivery.co.uk to receive more information or to place an order. Or call 020 7739 8181. |

Checking labels for animal ingredients has always been a time-consuming part
of vegetarian shopping but who'd have thought that one day even that old favourite
- the baked potato, could be genetically part fish! Or what about next summers
strawberries and cream (scientists have been experimenting with splicing the
gene in arctic fish into potatoes and strawberries to make them frost-resistant)
At the beginning of the 21st century it is already possible for plants to
be 'engineered' with genes taken from completely different species - including
insects and animals. And as foods come on to the market with genes from a
variety of sources it will become even harder to keep track.
ORGANIC FARMING AND ORGANIC FOOD PRODUCTION strictly prohibit the use of genetically
engineered ingredients.
